We hired Abby Donnelly as a presenter for an annual management planning meeting we have every December.  At this meeting, we step away from the concerns of our daily business and spend time together to reflect and plan but also to reward our managers with an interesting day without the concerns of that daily business.  To that end, we asked Abby to provide a program on time management.  We asked her to develop something that was both educational and entertaining.  We wanted our managers to gain something from it but we also want to give them a pre-holiday break from daily stress.

 I’m pleased to say that Abby’s presentation fulfilled both criteria and more.  What was great about her presentation is that she shared a “bag of tricks” that managers could consider.  Not every time management technique will work for every role.  By providing a wide variety of ideas, each manager could take away a few ideas they could actually apply in their position.  One thing that kept the meetings lively was that Abby invited discussion of the ideas so managers could share ideas they have found effective and the points could be discussed in the context of our unique business (and isn’t everyone’s business unique!?).

 Abby’s presentation was very well regarded and it was a great balance of fun and learning that we were looking for.  As an added bonus, everyone left with a gift of Abby’s book “128 Tips to Make You a More Effective Leader.”  My copy stays on the credenza in my office.
